Leveling My Workbenches

Glued a bunch of 2x4's together to make a nice thick bench top.  The only problem is it's nowhere close to flat!  What to do?

I attach long rails on both sides of the bench with a sacrificial board in between.

I use two taunt strings crossed to determine if the two sides have formed a level plane.

Once the strings are removed I placed a sliding box that my router fits into on top of the rails.

Using a very wide flat bit on the router I slide the box and the router in all directions to remove any high spots on the bench.  The bench was pretty warped so several progressive passes were needed.

Chopping my way to level and making lots of sawdust in the process!
