Welcome to the Voice Wars

This week, Google moved to block users of Amazon’s Fire TV and Echo Show devices from watching YouTube. That might sound like a minor skirmish between a pair of tech companies jostling for position in outlying territories. But it could also be the start of something much bigger: a struggle for dominance of a far less open internet in which no one—consumers least of all—wins.

“The Interview” now available on Google Play and YouTube Movies

Last Wednesday Sony began contacting a number of companies, including Google, to ask if we’d be able to make their movie, "The Interview," available online. We'd had a similar thought and were eager to help—though given everything that’s happened, the security implications were very much at the front of our minds.

Of course it was tempting to hope that something else would happen to ensure this movie saw the light of day. But after discussing all the issues, Sony and Google agreed that we could not sit on the sidelines and allow a handful of people to determine the limits of free speech in another country (however silly the content might be).

So starting at 10 a.m. PST in the U.S., you can rent or buy "The Interview" on Google Play and YouTube Movies. It will also be available to Xbox Video customers and via www.seetheinterview.com.

Red Flag Warning

The National Weather Service in Boise has issued a red flag warning... which is in effect from 3 PM MDT /2 PM PDT/ this afternoon to 9 PM MDT /8 PM PDT/ this evening.

A cold front will cross the district late this afternoon bringing gusty west and northwest winds to the area lasting through the evening. In combination with these gusty winds will be single digit relative humidities in the 5 to 10 percent range. Temperatures ahead of the front will reach well into the 90s. Critically dry fuels are in place over the red flag warning area.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

Thank you 'Bubbles' for pointing out a certain word that the ranking program missed for some strange reason. Now, (thanks to Bubbles) I have been pushed into the much higher grossing category of PG-13!
