8 Benefits of Being a Cat Owner
The war between cat and dog people is vicious and will probably never end. Here’s some ammunition for the next time you're talking to one of those horrible dog lovers.
Cow Rescue
We were hanging out on the lanai right after sunset when I saw a car dramatically slow down and stop in the road. It was right on the edge of night and I could just make out what the issue was. An Angus cow smack dab in the middle of the road.
I gave the ADA County Sheriff a call, and 20 minutes later 'The Great Cow Capture" began.
He sees it, but what do you do now? |
I brightened up the photo a bit but can't see the cow, who has temporarily moved off of the road. |
It took 45 minutes but finally a farmer came out with a truck and trailer and reclaimed his cow. |
Runway Disappearing Act
A burst of incredibly heavy rain forces pilots to abandon their landing at the very last second when the runway goes completely out of sight.
These Buildings Are Made Out of Ships
It's the ultimate form of recycling — just build your house out of old ocean vessels and ships. Here are some of the most incredible ways that people have turned boats into buildings, and vice versa.
Welcome to the circus: aircraft boarding is a microcosm of a broken industry
No one’s accusing America’s largest airlines of being shining beacons of efficiency and customer service. But in many ways, they seem to willfully shirk the natural, logical order of things in an active bid to make traveling as miserable as possible. It’s as if they’re constantly searching for that magical inflection point where price and frustration are equally maximized.
Lawsuit: "Happy Birthday" is not in copyright, and Warner owes the world hundreds of millions for improperly collected royalties
Copyright scholars have long been pretty certain that "Happy Birthday to You" is in the public domain, despite the fact that Warner/Chappell claims copyright on it and charges impressive licensing fees to use it in public performances. Those fees, however, are much lower than a copyright lawsuit would be, so everyone shrugs and pays them. Until now.
The Poke Test, Using a Fork to Flip, and Other Steak-Cooking Myths
You've probably heard some of these steak cooking tips before: Use the finger test to see if a steak is done. Only flip your steak once. Let it rest at room temperature before cooking. According to The Food Lab's J Kenji Lopez-Alt, these—among others—are steak cooking myths that need to go away once and for all.
Hong Kong's Old Airport Reborn As Hong Kong's New Cruise Ship Terminal
The Kai Tak Airport, better known as Hong Kong International, dutifully served the island city for nearly three quarters of a century before shutting down in 1998. But rather than let that prime civic real estate fallow, the Hong Kong government has transformed it into a dazzling new cruise ship port.
After a billion-dollar (US) renovation and conversion, the new Kai Tak cruise terminal opened to passengers yesterday. In total, the 19 acre facility can simultaneously accommodate a pair of 50,000 ton ships—such as Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels—as well as their 5,400 passengers and 1,200 crew members.

Dear Leader Dreams of Sushi
North Korea is a mythically strange land, an Absurdistan, where almost nothing is known about the people or, more important, their missile-launching leaders. There is, however, one man—a humble sushi chef from Japan—who infiltrated the inner sanctum, becoming the Dear Leader's cook, confidant, and court jester. What is life like serving Kim Jong-il and his heir? A strange and dangerous gig where the food and drink never stop, the girls are all virgins, and you're never really safe. We sent Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Adam Johnson to meet the man who survived all the craziness
Fresh Meat For The Grinder!
95 percent of people wash their hands improperly: Are you one of them?
Hand-washing is a daily routine -- for most of us -- but according to a new study, only a handful of people are properly scrubbing their paws.
Michigan State University researchers camped out in public restrooms, and found only 5 percent of people properly washed their hands long enough to kill infection-causing germs and bacteria.

What's the Difference Between Pain Relievers?
Dear Lifehacker,
Every time I go to the pharmacy, I'm confused. What's the difference between something like Tylenol and Advil? When should I use each one? What about sleep aids or cough medicines? Are generics okay, or should I spring for the brand name instead?
Sincerely,
Brand Skeptic
