For Those Who Like 'Snacks'
Girl has more than 30 ants in her ears
Recently her ears started itching and when her family members said they had seen ants climbing out of her ears she rushed to see a doctor.
(China Daily)
A 16-year-old girl in Taiwan had more than 30 ants in her ears because of her fancy for snacks.
The doctor found that there were about six ants in the girl's left ear, and more than 20 in her right ear.
Fortunately the ants had not caused any harm to the girl's eardrum.
The girl said she always likes eating snacks and clearing her ears when lying in bed.
Readers of the Pack: American Best-Selling
IN MAKING THE LIST, his 2001 book about best sellers, former Simon & Schuster editor in chief Michael Korda recalls that the publishing house once commissioned a study of which books made the most money. After a detailed presentation, the consultant said to the editors, "Do you guys realize how much money the company would make if you only published best sellers?" He might as well have told them that they'd do better playing the lottery if they picked the right numbers. Trends come and go, but the best seller remains essentially serendipitous. An editor can be no more certain of finding the next one than a writer can be assured of writing it. "As a rule of thumb," writes John Sutherland, an English scholar who has studied the phenomenon, "what defines the bestseller is bestselling. Nothing else."
El Mirador, the Lost City of the Maya
We were hovering now over the heart of the ancient city of El Mirador, once home to an estimated 200,000 people and the capital of a complex society of interconnected cities and settlements that may have supported upwards of a million people. The last thing you would ever guess from a casual aerial overview was that virtually every topographical contour in the primordial forest was created not by geological and environmental forces but by the vanished inhabitants of one of the world’s foundational civilizations.

...Unseasonably cold and wet storm for the holiday weekend...
Another late spring storm is developing over the area. This storm is expected to last through monday morning with main impacts being unseasonably cold...wet and sometimes snowy conditions.
Daytime temperatures for Saturday and Sunday will be in the 40s in the mountains and 50s in the valleys and highlands. Overnight lows will drop to the 20s and 30s in the mountains and mid 30s to mid 40s in the valleys and highlands. High temperatures will average 15 to 20 degrees below normal for these dates.
Moderate to heavy rain and snow is forecast with this storm. The heaviest precipitation will begin over southern areas of the region then work north into the central mountains tonight and Sunday. Wrap around moisture from the large low center will combine with falling snow levels to produce wet snow accumulations over the highlands of Oregon and Idaho tonight and Sunday. 2 to 4 inches is possible in these areas with significant snowfall in the mountains. Rainfall totals could also be heavy with up to one inch of rain in parts of southern Idaho and southeast Oregon. Around a half inch of rain is expected in the populated Snake River valley by the time the storm ends.
In addition to the wet conditions...blustery west to northwest winds will develop on Sunday as the storm slowly departs. Speeds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are likely from Boise and mountain home westward through Oregon.
Slightly warmer and drier conditions will develop on Memorial Day especially by afternoon. A more significant warm up is forecast for mid-week with temperatures returning to normal or even slightly above normal.

What Is Planking?
Planking is blowing up the news these day. Old people would say it's another instance of why the youth is screwed. Kids would fire back that it's the most fun you can have being still. Who's right? And just what the hell is planking?

The Door to Hell
Darvaza, Turkmenistan - While drilling in 1971, geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 70 metres.
To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to be burned off. Geologists had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days, but the gas still burns 40 years later. Locals have dubbed the cavern "The Door to Hell."

16 Tips For The Perfect Burger
Backyard burgers. What could be more American? What could be a bigger crowd pleaser? What could be easier?
While we don't need convincing that a juicy cheeseburger would instantly have them belting out "The Star-Spangled Banner" in the streets of Paris, we do have a beef with anyone who thinks crafting a classic burger is as easy as slapping down ground meat on a grill.
We've had too many dried-out discs of near-jerky to think that. Luckily, Jeff Weinstein, founder and owner of The Counter burger restaurants is here to save us from ever again eating a hockey puck at a summer barbecue. Read on for his top tips for making perfect burgers.

Here Come The Storms
Major weather change coming...
Southeastern Oregon and southwestern Idaho will have one last warm day today before a cold front brings drastic cooling Sunday.
Well ahead of the front... showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms will be strongest in the west central Idaho mountains but all areas are vulnerable. Strongest storms will produce heavy rain... wind gusts to 50 mph... and small hail.
The cold front will arrive around midnight in eastern Oregon and before sunrise in southwest Idaho. Frontal passage will be marked by a windshift from southeast to west along with more showers and thunderstorms.
Behind the cold front is much colder and blustery weather. Sunday will be showery with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. High temperatures Sunday will be only in the 50s to lower 60s in the valleys and 50 to 55 in the mountains. Compare that with highs today in the 70s to lower 80s in the valleys and 60s to mid 70s in the mountains. The colder temperatures Sunday along with west winds 20 to 30 mph will make it feel like early April again.
Temperatures are expected to stay below normal until next Thursday.
