As the plane touched down in Shanghai an announcement was made for everyone to remain seated, even after we arrived at the gate. The bridges are extended over to the plane, the doors open, and several teams of inspectors enter the plane. They are clothed in full bunny suits, gloves, boots, goggles, and masks. The teams make their way down each aisle way scanning every passenger with an infrared device looking for anyone with a fever. This is done by pointing the scanner at your forehead, producing a red wavy line across your brow, until you hear a beep. The plane had to be completely scanned before anyone could leave. If you were unlucky enough to have someone showing a fever within 7 rows of you, there would be further measurements taken, and possibly you could be quarantined. After the testing was complete we each had to fill out a form detailing our travels within China, and information on how to be contacted. We made it.
The feeling that we were done, and the risk of running in to complications was over, dwindled somewhat, when today, before we could check into our hotel, the same temperature scan and documentation was required. We all feel fine, but it is definitely strange having this done on a regular basis. Also, the fact that today it was 102 degrees with 80 percent humidity does not lend itself to you staying COOL!
As usual, I will keep you all posted as I can.
