It's Coming!

The National Weather Service in Boise has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow in the entire Treasure Valley... West central Idaho mountains... Boise Mountains... and Owyhee Mountains ... Which is in effect from 5 am Sunday to 5 am MST Monday.

Snow will begin in the pre-dawn hours Sunday and continue through Sunday and Sunday night. The Boise Mountains will receive the greatest snowfall... averaging 12 to 24 inches with local amounts up to 30 inches on west facing higher slopes. The west central Idaho mountains receive 12 to 20 inches. Gusty southeast winds to 25 mph will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow.

The Treasure valley is expected to receive between 6 and 12 inches. Gusty southeast winds 15 to 25 mph... gusts to 35 mph near Mountain Home... will cause some blowing and drifting but as the snow becomes wetter that hazard will diminish. It is possible that rain may mix with the snow in the upper Treasure valley Sunday night which would limit accumulations to about 4 inches. There is also a slight chance of freezing rain in the lower Treasure valley Sunday night.

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow means that significant amounts of snow will make travel dangerous. Strong winds will also cause blowing and drifting of snow... and will limit visibilities. Only travel in an emergency.
