House Update

Just before we left on vacation we were only a home inspection away from wrapping up the sale of our current home. That has all changed. While on vacation we got word that the buyer had backed out of the deal due to the discovery of Polybutylene Pipe. This piping is used for water delivery to the house, to the hose bibs, and for water delivery to our Apollo Heating System, and is unfortunately involved in a national class action lawsuit due to it rupturing.

We immediately put the house back on the market, and the very next day it sold again! Since we have arrived home we have been shooting documents back and forth to our realtor by FAX due to the ice storm. We have disclosed the discovery of the evil piping and have a plumber coming in on Tuesday to investigate and quote a replacement job. We have yet to hear if this will be acceptable to the buyer but figure we need to take care of this no matter what if we plan on selling the house anytime soon.

The new house continues to move along slowly. This is good as we are attempting to recover from the loss of one week due to the plumbing snafu. The light fixtures are now going in and carpet is to arrive sometime this week.

I assume that on Monday we will hear what affect all of this has on the new prospective buyer and Tuesday I will know what it will cost me to fix it. Ahhhhh, the joy of selling your home. No wonder it took us 10 years to decide to do it!
